Anthrax, Smallpox, Botulism

Because Code Orange by Catherine B. Cooney deals with issues of terrorism and biological warfare, I would like you to complete a research project about an infectious disease. 

A completed project will

v  Have a title slide at the beginning stating the title of the project, your name, and the date

v  Have worked cited slide

v  Be visually appealing

v  Answering the following questions:

1.       What is your disease?

·         How can you get it?

·         What are the symptoms of the disease?

·         Is it curable?  How?

2.       Come up with a TIMELINE for the disease detail major outbreaks in history

·         Where was it?

·         What was thought to be the main cause?

·         How many people were affected? 

·         When did it stop and why?

3.       What is biological warfare?

·         Why is your disease a good candidate for biological warfare?

·         Has it been used in the past?  Where?  When? Why?  Who was harmed?  Who intentionally infected them?

·         Is there anything we do to protect ourselves against this disease?

You will be expected to present your completed project to the class on Friday November 18^th.

e.      Do you like this song?  (yes/no and why)

a.       What is the video about?

b.      In your opinion, do the lyrics and the video fit together?  Why or why not?

c.       Was there anything that surprised you about the video?

3.)    What’s the deal?  Does doing the analysis tell you anything about the band, yourself, popular culture, the role of music in society, what it means to be a modern musician, perceptions of school shootings and shooters?  Tell me about it.

For my own sanity, I am instituting a NO LATE WORK POLICY starting NOW.  If you were ill, I will give you an extra day to complete what you missed, but the amount of late assignments I have received now that the quarter is over is absolutely INSANE.

Updates about last week and today

Freshmen!
Last week we read The Lottery, The Tell-Tale Heart, and Porphyria's Lover.  All creepy in their own ways.  This week, we are moving on to literature circles... but not before we practice creative writing/analyzing artwork.  I am interested to hear your interpretations of the works we looked at today.

Sophomores (FW)! 
We started working on the nine fallacies and analyzing ads and music videos.  I think it's going well so far.  Remember to choose your song/video for tomorrow. 

Sophomores (PW)!
Pumped up Kicks tomorrow.  If you have been forgetting to bring in your project, PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING IT!  The quarter ended on Friday, and it makes a huge difference in your quarter grade!

Juniors!
I am disappointed with most of your reading (or lack of reading) of Sleepy Hollow!  I'll have to think twice about showing you a movie, even when there's a holiday... not a good way to start off quarter two.

We worked on descriptive writing today... I think we'll continue in a creative vein for awhile....

I haven't viewed all of your tests yet, but the ones I did read made me feel that LFHS could eventually develop an appreciation for Irving!  Bring in your scholarship and application prompts tomorrow!  We will get to work.
